The Center for Building Knowledge at NJIT is piloting a curriculum track on building commissioning, developed over the last year and a half with our partner, PECI (Portland Energy Conservation, Inc.). The commissioning track will help participants build their knowledge base in new construction building commissioning, existing building commissioning, commissioning systems & equipment, and systems performance & analysis.

"On Friday, March 23rd, 2012, The Monuments Conservancy will present its 22nd Annual Symposium at the Time & Life Building, Rockefeller Center, 1271 Avenue of the Americas (at 50th Street), Henry Luce Room (second floor), from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm.

The afternoon session will be devoted to The High School for Preservation Arts Program at the Williamsburg (NY) High School of Architecture and Design, the first of its kind in the United States. Designed by curriculum specialists at the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Center for Building Knowledge, the program combines academics with a hands-on approach, training students in the preservation arts and professions such as stone carving, stained glass, woodworking, conservation, architecture, city planning, and engineering.

Paul Romano, with Elaine Bryant of PSE&G, will be presenting their innovative pilot retro-commissioning program at the 22nd Annual AESP National Conference in San Diego, CA the week of February 6th. The session titled "Innovation in Retro-Commissioning Program Design: The Value of Customer Partnerships" will describe the progress of this recent effort;

Food service at RPS is a living lesson in sustainability and conservation.  The new Dining Commons has been open since the begining of the school year at Rutgers Prep and everything is recycled, composted, or best of all, eaten.  The students can see the difference as they enjoy the great food and the zero-landfill efforts in the new building.

"In a position paper released by The McGraw-Hill Research Foundation, “Reimagining the Classroom: Opportunities to Link Recent Advances in Pedagogy to Physical Settings,” Alessandro De Gregori, a research architect and consultant for the Center for Building Knowledge at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, contends that in order to effectively optimize teaching and learning, the physical design of the classroom should and can be manipulated to meet the growing needs of teachers and students.

The Center for Building Knowledge, as a member of the Greater Philadelphia Innovation Cluster for Energy-Efficient Buildings (GPIC), a U.S. DOE Energy Innovation Hub, held a panel in Philadelphia on June 14 that brought together stakeholders in the commercial office building industry.

Deane Evans, Executive Director of The Center for Building Knowledge, spoke on a panel entitled "Industry Insights into High Performance Buildings."  The panel was part of a New York showcase at which Ingersoll-Rand introduced the Trane High Performance Buildings approach to creating safe, comfortable and efficient buildings.
